About Mudumalai National Park

Established in 1940, Mudumalai was the first wildlife sanctuary in South India and is now part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Best Time to Visit Mudumalai National Park

The ideal time to visit is between October and May, especially March to May for the highest chances of tiger sightings and wildlife visibility. Monsoon season (June–September) is not suitable due to slippery terrain and limited safari activity.

  • By Road40 km from Ooty via NH67 through Kalhatty Ghat (steep route with 36 hairpin bends) or Gudalur route (smoother for larger vehicles).

Note: Kalhatty Ghat is closed for descent; take Gudalur route when returning from Mudumalai.
